Education in Lithuania
The present-day Lithuanian educational system covers pre-school development, general child and youth education, vocational training, higher education and adult education, provided by the following education institutions: pre-school development establishments; general education schools; vocational training establishments and enterprises; VET schools; institutions of higher education: universities (Universitetas) and colleges (Kolegija); supplementary education establishments.
Compulsory school attendance is till student turn 16 years old. The school calendar, which is established by the Education Authorities, covers a minimum of 175 days for compulsory education. The school years start before September 1st or end after June 30th.
Education institutions can be State or non-State (municipal, private or other). State schools are financed by government. Non-state schools in most of cases have no financial assistance.
